Moonstone is a popular gemstone variety of orthoclase feldspar, sometimes presents a shimmering phenomena called adularescence, that show some attractive blue flashes similar to labradorite optical effect. Deposits of this material are from Sri Lanka and India, but other sources include Brazil, Germany, India, Myanmar, Madagascar, Australia, Tanzania, and the United States. Typically colorless and translucent, moonstone can also occurred in yellow, orange, green, pink and blue. The translucent or transparent quality is the most valuable variety of this stone. Rarely, some stone presents chatoyancy optical effect like cat’s eye and asterism. This material are priced high duo to its rarity. Usually cut into cabochon, moonstone can also be carved or cut into beads, and usually is not treated or enhanced.
