Turquoise is composed of hydrous phosphate of copper, is an opaque stone with a unique tint that come from blue to green. Sometimes Turquoise exhibit inclusions of pyrite or dark limonite veining that form an attractive spider web pattern.
Turquoise, along with lapis lazuli, is one of the oldest gemstone materials known to man. The most valuable stones came from Iran but it can be mined also in Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Israel, Egypt, Mexico, Tanzania and United States.
It is a soft and porous stone and is often enhanced with treatment by impregnating the stone with acrylic resin.
Usually cut into cabochon or beads, gemstones of this material are really appreciate in jewelry world.
